The line that actually matters

The useful question isn't "did they use AI?" It's "did they learn anything?" Asking AI to write the essay so they don't have to think is cheating themselves. Asking it to explain a concept they're stuck on, or to critique a draft they wrote, is closer to having a tireless tutor. Same tool, opposite outcomes.

The skill your child needs isn't avoiding AI. It's knowing when using it helps them grow and when it robs them of the reps.

A conversation, not a ban

• •Ask them to show you how they use it — curiosity beats confiscation.
• •Agree on a simple rule: AI can help you understand, but the thinking has to be yours.
• •Have them explain their homework back to you. If they can, they learned it — with or without AI.
